The core content of the 'Family-oriented Children's Theme Park,' which Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do has been focusing on, has finally been unveiled.

On the 5th, Gwangyang City held the final report and advisory committee meeting for the exhibition content to fill the family-oriented children's theme park at the city hall situation room, attended by about 20 people including Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang, expert advisory group members, and related officials.

The family-oriented children's theme park to be built within the central neighborhood park at the foot of Gubongsan Mountain is planned to be developed as a family cultural park featuring the nation's first specialized materials science museum, an imaginative playground where growing children can play freely, and a forest campground.

At the final report meeting, explanations were given on the production and installation design of exhibits to be created for the public Gwangyang Materials Science Museum and the imaginative playground, followed by gathering opinions from advisory committee members composed of experts.

The public Gwangyang Materials Science Museum, to be constructed with a total floor area of 7,010㎡ (one basement floor and two above-ground floors), will be equipped with a planned exhibition hall, children's exhibition hall, and permanent exhibition hall. It is expected to showcase "everything about materials" in one place, themed around Materials Wonder World, The Power of Materials, The Secrets of Materials, and Innovation of Materials.

The Imaginative Playground is a project to build a play space with a total floor area of 2,820㎡ where children, the future protagonists, can freely run, nurture their imagination and creativity, and grow healthily.

The Imaginative Playground, which will be the most fun playground in the world, will be composed of five themes: Adventure Mountain, Secret Cave, Sea of Senses, Magic Pond, and Forest of Imagination, including an indoor playground and an outdoor playground called Imagination Park.

The city plans to finalize the exhibit designs by reflecting the advisory committee's opinions from this report meeting, complete administrative procedures such as the Public Procurement Service's detailed design appropriateness review and Jeollanam-do Construction Technology Deliberation, then start construction in the first half of this year and complete the project by the end of 2026.

Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang said, "The science museum and imaginative playground should be composed of exhibition content that allows children to understand scientific principles through experience rather than textbook explanations," adding, "The public Gwangyang Materials Science Museum and Imaginative Playground will become a science incubator where children can freely play and pursue their dreams of science."

Meanwhile, the public Gwangyang Materials Science Museum, which began with the selection for the Ministry of Science and ICT's specialized science museum construction project in August 2021, is attracting attention as the nation's first specialized materials science museum that leverages the characteristics of the Gwangyang Bay industrial complex specialized in the materials industry.
