Gwangjin-gu Holds 2040 Gwangjin Plan Briefing... Drawing Future Urban Development Blueprint Together with Residents

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held a meeting on the 2nd at the district office auditorium with over 400 residents to share a blueprint for the balanced future development of Gwangjin.

Since the 8th term of the elected government, the district has been undertaking a comprehensive overhaul of urban planning, which serves as the foundation for urban development.

In particular, it introduced the basic plan for resolving regional urban development imbalances and recreating urban spaces, called the ‘2040 Gwangjin Plan,’ marking a new leap forward.

The ‘2040 Gwangjin Plan’ divides Gwangjin-gu into four major zones and four major axes, containing a differentiated blueprint for region-specific balanced development. The plan aims to create a city centered around transit hubs where work and leisure can coexist, ensuring no area from the Han River riverside to the Junggok-dong region is left behind.

At the briefing, the district presented development directions for the four major zones and four major axes.

First, in the four major zones, ▲ the Junggok zone will be developed as a medical-specialized hub. A comprehensive medical complex will be established, focusing on medical and energy-specialized areas, upgrading small-scale industries such as the sewing industry, and creating a waterfront emotional city linked with Jungnangcheon and Ginkgo-rangcheon streams.

The Hwayang-Gunja zone will be developed as a youth knowledge and culture hub. Urban development will be promoted centered on the restructuring of Children’s Grand Park, and it will be transformed into one of Seoul’s top three youth downtowns by fostering youth startups and creating a complex cultural hub.

The Guui-Gwangjang zone will transform into a historical and cultural arts hub. The modernization projects of Gangbyeon Station and Dong Seoul Terminal will landmark the northeastern area and create a waterfront emotional city, while strengthening the central functions around Gwangnaru Station.

The Jayang zone will be reborn as an advanced business complex hub. The advanced business complex development project in the Guui Station Jayang 1 promotion zone will be completed by March next year, accelerating leading development through the relocation of the new district office, public complex development on the current district office site, and the enhancement of the Great Han River.

Additionally, the development directions for the four major axes centered on subway lines are ▲ (Youth Advanced Innovation Axis) fostering startups and venture companies along Lines 2 and 7 and creating strategic industrial hubs ▲ (Industrial Support Axis) developing commercial, business, and cultural hubs along Cheonho-daero on Line 5 ▲ (Advanced Industry Axis) fostering advanced industries and securing new growth engines along Achasan-ro on Line 2 ▲ (Creative Culture Axis) establishing creative industry hubs and cultural spaces linked with the region along Jayang-ro to Yongmasan-ro.

Through this briefing session, we will reflect the valuable opinions shared both online and offline and do our best to realize a new transformation of ‘a vibrant city, the central city of the northeastern area, Gwangjin’ 20 years from now.”
