Campaign Launched to Promote Eco-Friendly Culture through Digitalization of Reusable Cups
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam took the lead in spreading an eco-friendly cafe culture by fully implementing the digitalization of reusable cups (Doldol e-Cup) starting from the 5th, as a measure to curb the recent indiscriminate increase in disposable cup usage due to the temporary allowance of single-use items and the spread of coffee culture.
The Changwon reusable cup (Doldol Cup) sharing pilot project is differentiated from the existing method by ▲centralizing at key points ▲fully digitalizing the usage method ▲unifying management and cleaning supply, expecting a revolutionary improvement in return rates and maximizing the utilization rate of reusable cups through systematic management.
In particular, the full digitalization of reusable cups at 21 cafes in front of Changwon City Hall and the complete ban on bringing disposable cups into the city hall building have been actively implemented to reduce the use of single-use items in public institutions and to spread this practice among citizens.
On this day, to increase user understanding of the digital reusable cup (Doldol e-Cup) and ensure smooth project settlement, a campaign titled ‘The First Step of Loving the Environment! Use Reusable Cups (Doldol e-Cup)!’ was held at the main building of the city hall. The E-Cup app installation and usage methods were guided, and promotional items were distributed to participants to encourage the use of reusable cups.
The method of using the reusable cup (Doldol e-Cup) is ▲installing and registering on the reusable cup rental app ‘E-Cup’ ▲ordering a beverage with the reusable cup (Doldol e-Cup) ▲scanning the QR code on the bottom of the reusable cup via the mobile app ▲after drinking, recognizing the QR code on the bottom of the reusable cup and returning it. It is linked with the Ministry of Environment’s Carbon Neutral Practice Point System, providing 300 KRW per use.
Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “I hope that the culture of using reusable cups, which prioritizes the environment instead of thoughtlessly using disposable cups for convenience, will become a habit in daily life. I urge active participation in using reusable cups as the first step of loving the environment for carbon neutrality practice.”
