Military Begins On-Site Technical Guidance for Livestock Management
Hampyeong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 5th that it has started on-site technical guidance for farmers on growth management, such as topdressing during the growth regeneration period when roots develop after wintering, to improve the quality and increase the production of cereals.
According to the county, the analysis of the growth regeneration period of cereals such as barley and wheat this year showed that it is about a week earlier than last year, around early February. They urged timely topdressing.
The growth regeneration period of cereals refers to the time when the plants, having spent the winter in a dormant state to withstand the cold, begin normal nutrient movement for growth as the temperature rises.
It is recommended to apply 9 to 12 kg of fertilizer per 300 pyeong within 10 days after the growth regeneration period as topdressing. If the plants show yellowing due to winter waterlogging damage, drainage maintenance and spraying of 2% urea solution (20ℓ water : 400g urea) should be done to enhance root vitality.
Moon Jeong-mo, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, "Safe winter management of cereals requires technical cultivation management after the growth regeneration period," and added, "We will strengthen on-site technical guidance to ensure timely use of topdressing and prevent waterlogging damage for high-quality cereal production."
