Incheon City announced on the 5th that it will provide 23.5 billion KRW in support for a total of 6,303 vehicles this year to reduce emissions from operating vehicles.
The city plans to encourage the early retirement of diesel vehicles rated 4 and 5 for emissions and construction machinery, and will promote the installation of Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) and the distribution of electric excavators. Especially this year, as a new project, it will electrify 1-ton cargo trucks, forklifts, and pile drivers/hammers, and expand support for electric excavators and zero-emission construction sites.
For early retirement, 50 to 100% of the standard vehicle price for eligible vehicles will be supported. Additionally, when attaching a DPF to a 5th-grade diesel vehicle, 90% of the cost will be covered, and for construction machinery, the full cost will be supported when attaching emission reduction devices (dump trucks) or replacing engines (forklifts, excavators, loaders, rollers).
However, if the subsidy recipient retires or deregisters the vehicle within the mandatory 2-year operation period, the subsidy will be reclaimed. If the vehicle is retired or deregistered after the 2-year mandatory operation period, the emission reduction device must be returned.
Attaching emission reduction devices to 5th-grade diesel vehicles and others will exempt the environmental improvement charge for 3 years, and if a performance maintenance inspection is conducted by the Korea Transportation Safety Authority after installation, the vehicle will be exempt from detailed emission inspections for 3 years.
Applications for subsidy support (scheduled for the end of February) can be made by signing up on the internet at the "Comprehensive Vehicle Emission Computer System." Since 2004, the city has promoted emission reduction projects and has supported a total of 195.8 billion KRW for 237,000 operating vehicles, including 114,000 early retirements, 90,000 emission reduction device installations, and 33,000 others up to last year.
An official from Incheon City stated, "To simultaneously reduce fine dust and greenhouse gases, we will continuously expand projects that reduce emissions from diesel internal combustion engine vehicles and promote the transition to eco-friendly vehicles and construction machinery."
