Seongdong-gu Supports Hair Loss Treatment Costs for Youth... 200,000 KRW Per Person Annually

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is promoting the 'Youth and Others Hair Loss Treatment Expense Support Project' for residents aged 39 and under (born in 1985 or later).

Seongdong-gu launched the hair loss treatment expense support project for youth nationwide for the first time in March last year, striving to realize deeper and more detailed welfare by encouraging young people to enjoy confident and vibrant daily lives.

The hair loss treatment expense support project targets Seongdong-gu residents aged 39 and under who have been registered residents of Seongdong-gu and have lived there for more than three months as of the application date, and who have been diagnosed with hair loss at a medical institution. Upon application, the district supports part of the hair loss treatment expenses, limited to oral medication costs.

The support method reimburses 80% of the out-of-pocket expenses up to an annual limit of 200,000 KRW on a pre-purchase basis (purchase first, then support). Retroactive application is available for purchases made on or after December 1, 2023.

In the early phase of the project, from March to June 2023, 50% of treatment costs were supported, but from July, the support rate was expanded to 80%. As of 2023, a total of 988 people have received support for hair loss treatment expenses.

Applications can be made from February 5 through the Seongdong-gu Office website under Seongdong Participation - Event Registration. Applicants must submit a diagnosis certificate or a medical opinion with the disease code, prescription, pharmacy-issued medication cost statement, and purchase receipt. Upon receipt of documents, eligibility and residency requirements will be verified to determine payment, and the support fund will be deposited into the applicant’s individual account around the 15th of the following month.

Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "We will continue to make efforts to provide tailored support that can be felt, as a policy that carefully embraces the weight of life felt by youth and others."
