The People Power Party received a total of 847 applications for nominations in 253 constituencies for the April 10 general election.


The People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee closed the application process on the 3rd, which began on the 29th of last month, and released the results of the applications.

Among the 847 applicants for nominations in 253 constituencies, 86.7% (734) were male and 13.3% (113) were female. Applicants under the age of 45 accounted for 9.5% (80).


By region, Gyeonggi had the highest number of applicants with 228 across 59 constituencies, followed by Seoul with 156 applicants across 49 constituencies. On the other hand, some regions had single-digit applicants, such as Jeonnam with 8, Jeonbuk with 7, and Gwangju and Jeju with 6 each.


Looking at the competition rate by region, Sejong recorded the highest competition rate of 6 to 1, with 12 applicants for 2 constituencies.


Gyeongbuk had 67 applicants for 13 constituencies, resulting in a competition rate of 5.15 to 1. Gyeongnam had 75 applicants for 16 constituencies, with a competition rate of 4.69 to 1, and Busan had 77 applicants for 18 constituencies, recording a competition rate of 4.28 to 1.


Gyeonggi had a competition rate of 3.86 to 1 (228 applicants for 59 constituencies), Daegu 3.67 to 1 (44 applicants for 12 constituencies), and Incheon 3.54 to 1 (46 applicants for 13 constituencies). The competition rates in Yeongnam, Gyeonggi, and Incheon exceeded the national average of 3.35 to 1.


Seoul had a competition rate of 3.18 to 1 (156 applicants for 49 constituencies), which was below the average. Chungbuk recorded 3.13 to 1, Chungnam 3.09 to 1, Ulsan 2.83 to 1, Gangwon 2.63 to 1, Daejeon 2.57 to 1, and Jeju 2 to 1.


Meanwhile, the competition rate in the Honam region, classified as a 'barren land,' was predictably low. Jeonnam had only 8 applicants for 10 constituencies, resulting in a competition rate of 0.8 to 1. Gwangju and Jeonbuk also showed rates of 0.75 to 1 (6 applicants for 8 constituencies) and 0.7 to 1 (7 applicants for 10 constituencies), respectively.


Meanwhile, the People Power Party stated that the number of applicants for constituency nominations this time increased by 1.31 times compared to the 647 applicants who applied for constituency nominations in the 21st general election under the party's predecessor, the United Future Party, four years ago.
