Men 320 Million Won · Women 280 Million Won
Significant Expenditure on Unit Costs as Well
An analysis revealed that the average wedding cost has surpassed 300 million KRW. Although the cost of the newlywed home accounted for 79% of the total expenses, various additional costs such as wedding gifts also exceeded 20 million KRW.
According to a survey conducted by the marriage information company Gayoun on the topic of the "2024 Wedding Cost Report" on the 3rd, the average total wedding cost was 300.474 million KRW, exceeding 300 million KRW. Among respondents, men reported an average of 327.36 million KRW, and women reported 286.43 million KRW. The survey was conducted by Gayoun through Open Survey (confidence level 80%, margin of error ±2.03 percentage points) targeting 1,000 recently married men and women (within 5 years of marriage).
The largest portion of the total cost was for securing the newlywed home, averaging 241.76 million KRW, accounting for 79% of the total expenses. Respondents who lived with their parents or used company or government housing reported this cost as zero.
Wedding gifts expenses averaged 26.15 million KRW. The traditional gift (yedan) cost was 5.66 million KRW, wedding jewelry was 5.3 million KRW, and the "Studio-Dress-Makeup" package, known as "Seudeume," averaged 4.79 million KRW. The average wedding hall cost was 9.9 million KRW, with responses ranging widely from zero (company or school-supported venues) to over 100 million KRW (hotel wedding halls).
In age group surveys, the 40s group spent more on traditional gifts and jewelry, while the 20s group spent more on the Seudeume package. The average honeymoon cost was 7.44 million KRW, the average cost for food offerings was 1.7 million KRW, and the average cost for return gifts was 1.17 million KRW.
A Gayoun representative stated, "The average cost is just an average; in reality, many have proceeded without large expenses on the newlywed home, wedding gifts, or wedding halls," adding, "Rather than strictly following all formalities, we hope that the bride and groom can come together and proceed with the wedding at a reasonable cost."
