According to Daejeon City on the 3rd, Mayor Lee Jang-woo of Daejeon met with Mayor Akimoto Katsuhiro at Sapporo City Hall the previous day and mutually agreed to implement a pilot project to activate private exchanges between the two cities.
The plan to revitalize private exchanges is a concretization of the proposal Mayor Lee made during his visit to the Sapporo Snow Festival in February last year.
On the 2nd, Mayor Lee and Mayor Akimoto finalized the agreement to mutually provide discount benefits for cultural facilities and others between the two cities.
The final agreement, derived based on practical consultations, includes details such as the public facilities to be discounted in the future, discount rates, and discount methods.
Daejeon City plans to sequentially implement the pilot project starting from April this year after revising ordinances and improving systems according to the final agreement.
At the meeting with Mayor Akimoto Katsuhiro, Mayor Lee also brought up the establishment of a direct flight between Cheongju Airport and Sapporo Airport, as well as cooperation in the field of sports exchanges between the two cities.

First, Mayor Lee expressed his intention to propose to the government the establishment of a direct flight between Cheongju Airport and Sapporo, aiming to put it into action.
Mayor Akimoto Katsuhiro also sympathized with Mayor Lee’s opinion and expressed his willingness to cooperate in establishing the direct flight from Cheongju Airport to activate private exchanges between the two cities.
Mayor Lee explained, “Daejeon has professional football, baseball, and volleyball teams rooted in the region,” and proposed, “I hope to broaden the scope of sports exchanges between the two cities by having professional teams based in Sapporo and Daejeon meet and hold mutual exchange matches.”
During his visit to Sapporo City Hall, Mayor Lee handed Mayor Akimoto Katsuhiro an invitation to the ‘Daejeon 0 o’clock Festival’ to be held in August this year and requested that the representative art troupe of Sapporo also visit during the festival.
Meanwhile, Sapporo City is the capital of Hokkaido and is ranked as the fifth largest city in Japan. Since signing a sister city agreement with Daejeon City in 2010, they have continued exchanges in various fields.
