Do Not Feed Pigeons
Fake Snake Toys and Others Are Also Effective

Recently, photos of birds of prey such as eagles were posted at some entrances of Hapjeong Station on Seoul Subway Lines 2 and 6, attracting attention. It was revealed that these photos were used as "threatening" images to scare away pigeons. The intention was to prevent pigeons from entering through the subway entrances, but it was reported that the effect was minimal. So, is there an effective way to drive pigeons away?
You can also create a sloped surface under the eaves to prevent pigeons or birds from perching or nesting.
First, all possible food sources must be completely eliminated. Since pigeons eat any food scraps dropped on the streets without discrimination, crumbs, trash, and pet food on the streets should be cleaned up. Also, feeding pigeons should be strictly avoided because pigeons have excellent memory for food sources. Attaching waterproof reflective tape to rooftops, balcony railings, and window sills where pigeons might perch can also help.
Hanging foil balloons or old CDs on trees is also effective. The reflected light interferes with the pigeons' vision and drives them away. There is also a product called a "bird slide," designed to make it difficult for pigeons to land. It consists of three exterior parts forming a right-angled triangle, with the inclined surface of the triangle (opposite the right angle at the base) set at an angle of 40 to 60 degrees, making it impossible for pigeons to land.
Placing objects that pigeons find frightening in places where they might nest is effective. For example, placing life-sized fake snake toys on flat areas such as balconies or rooftops works well. Pigeons tend to build nests in safe and dry places, so to prevent this, gaps between roof boards should be sealed. Also, blocking spaces like attics or garages with bird netting is another method.
Additionally, methods such as quickly spraying water or sprinkling red pepper powder or black pepper on surfaces favored by pigeons can drive them away. Pigeons also perceive laser beams as predators and fly away. Therefore, lightly waving a small laser pointer in the direction of pigeons can harmlessly scare them off.
