Jindo-gun, 2024 Welfare System Changes

Promoting Jindo for the Happiness of All Residents

Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, is making a strong start toward realizing welfare that makes all residents happy, along with welfare system changes in 2024.

According to the county on the 2nd, from this year, the eligibility criteria for livelihood benefits have been relaxed, and the medical benefit support obligation criteria for households with severely disabled persons have been abolished, enabling many residents to receive livelihood and medical benefits.

In addition, through a new policy of proper medication education, the county plans to protect residents from risks such as missed or misuse of medication among high-risk medical benefit recipients.

Furthermore, the scale of emergency welfare support for rapid assistance to households in crisis will be expanded, with livelihood expenses increased by 89,800 KRW for single-person households, supporting up to 713,100 KRW (differentiated by income), and increased by 213,300 KRW for four-person households, supporting up to 1,833,500 KRW (differentiated by income), thereby guaranteeing minimum living standards for low-income households facing livelihood difficulties.

Support projects for people with disabilities in the area will also be promoted to ensure that no resident is left behind.

The disability pension will be increased by up to 424,810 KRW per person (differentiated by income), and new projects such as a nutrition support program providing side dishes for low-income single disabled persons and a travel expense support project for low-income disabled families will be launched.

Through the instructor-dispatch type disabled employment project, visits will be made to vulnerable disabled households to provide organizing and storage support, and a disabled housing renovation project will support about 20 households to improve living conditions for disabled families.

Additionally, to actively discover households in welfare blind spots, a reward system for reporting households in crisis will be implemented from this year. If a household facing crisis due to unemployment, business closure, illness, etc., is reported to the local government and selected as a support target, the reporter will receive a reward of 50,000 KRW.

To alleviate small-scale daily inconveniences for vulnerable groups, the welfare mobile teams in seven eup and myeon districts will be expanded and operated to implement meticulous welfare administration ensuring no neighbors suffer from inconveniences in every corner of the village.

To prevent safety accidents among middle-aged and older adults at risk of solitary death, an intelligent (smart) care plug project (a device detecting living responses through electricity usage) and other intelligent technologies will be utilized to establish a solitary death prevention system.

Starting in April, the implementation of daily care services, a community service investment project, is expected to help alleviate daily life difficulties to some extent by providing home care and meals to ‘family care youth’ and ‘middle-aged and older adults in need of care.’

Moreover, since last year, a joint fundraising campaign with the Jindo-gun Community Security Council and the Jeonnam Social Welfare Community Chest has successfully raised 100 million KRW to secure resources for discovering and supporting households in crisis and for local welfare projects.

The county will continue efforts to eliminate welfare blind spots and improve welfare awareness by linking the joint fundraising campaign with region-specific projects promoted in each eup and myeon.

County Governor Kim Hee-su stated, “The ultimate goal of county administration is a Jindo-gun where all residents are happy,” adding, “We will proactively and actively promote and introduce the new systems changing in the Year of Gapjin, ensuring that no resident is left behind and making Jindo-gun a better place to live.”
