Samsung Electronics Boosts Productivity Using 28GHz Eum5G Technology

Samsung Electronics will enhance productivity and strengthen security and safety by utilizing the 28GHz band I-eum 5G frequency.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 2nd that it supplied Samsung Electronics with 28GHz and 4.7GHz band I-eum 5G frequencies on the 30th of last month.

Samsung Electronics plans to build an I-eum 5G communication network at its Suwon plant in Gyeonggi Province. In addition to the commonly demanded 4.7GHz band, the 28GHz band I-eum 5G, capable of ultra-high-speed transmission of large-capacity data and large-scale device connections, will be utilized in network equipment manufacturing sites and other areas.

Through the I-eum 5G network, it is expected to achieve cost reduction, increased productivity, and enhanced security and safety by operating production facilities faster and more efficiently compared to existing wired networks.

Samsung Electronics’ I-eum 5G solution has the advantage of supporting an upload/download ratio of 5:5 for the 28GHz base station, compared to the conventional 2:8 ratio. Samsung Electronics stated, "We will apply these specialized features to production facilities in the future to provide optimal service even in large-capacity ultra-high-speed environments and strive to activate the 28GHz I-eum 5G."

With this frequency supply, the number of corporations designated with I-eum 5G frequencies has increased to 12 institutions, expanding the utilization scope of I-eum 5G to a total of 31 institutions and 56 locations.

The Ministry of Science and ICT said, "It is significant that Samsung Electronics, a leading domestic and global company, is seeking digital transformation through I-eum 5G and making efforts to expand the use of the 28GHz band." It added, "We will actively support cooperation with I-eum 5G equipment, device, and solution companies to ensure the expansion of large-capacity hyper-connected services based on the 28GHz I-eum 5G."
