The city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province has relaxed the eligibility criteria for emergency welfare support recipients and increased livelihood support payments starting this year.
The Emergency Welfare Support System is designed to provide rapid assistance such as emergency living expenses and medical costs to households facing sudden crises like the main income earner's unemployment, death, or severe illness, making it difficult to maintain their livelihood.
From this year, the income threshold for a single-person household eligible for support has been relaxed by 112,915 KRW, from the previous 1,558,419 KRW or less to 1,671,334 KRW or less.
Livelihood support payments for a single-person household have increased by 89,800 KRW, from 623,300 KRW per month last year to 713,100 KRW this year. Fuel costs are supported at 150,000 KRW per month during the winter months (January to March, October to December) for emergency support households receiving livelihood and housing assistance.
Emergency support recipients can apply at their local Dong Administrative Welfare Center or the Human Welfare Team of the Care Policy Division at Suwon City Hall. Anyone who identifies an eligible recipient can also request support from these institutions.
Emergency welfare support provides rapid, short-term assistance in response to crisis situations. Vulnerable households requiring long-term support can receive assistance through linkage with the Basic Livelihood Security Program.
A Suwon city official urged, "If you find neighbors in crisis, please contact the Care Policy Division at Suwon City Hall or the Dong Administrative Welfare Center in your area at any time."
