Mayor Lee Kang-deok of Pohang had a meaningful time reflecting on the direction the region should take along with the youth who will lead Pohang's future.

On January 31, the Pohang Youth Federation and 33 representative youth organizations of Pohang held a ‘Youth Leader Communication Meeting,’ inviting Mayor Lee Kang-deok and senior officials of Pohang City to engage in sincere communication.


Organized directly by the youth, about 100 youth leaders from the region participated in the meeting to discuss youth policies and the development direction of major initiatives currently being promoted by Pohang City.


At the meeting, Mayor Lee gave a special lecture to the youth on Pohang’s past, present, and future, urging them to take a leading role in their respective positions for Pohang’s sustainable future.


The mayor said, “Local youth are becoming the driving force in developing the community through various activities such as supporting vulnerable groups, environmental improvement projects, and hosting senior citizen events,” adding, “We will continue to discover youth-led policies that resonate with the youth who will lead Pohang’s future and do our best to help them realize their dreams in Pohang.”


Following the special lecture, attendees shared their hopes for Pohang as local youth, exchanged ideas on youth policies, and communicated experiences across the youth generation.


The participants showed great interest in key policies related to youth, including ▲promotion of Glocal University 30 ▲designation of a secondary battery specialized complex and creation of a hydrogen fuel cell cluster ▲establishment of a youth complex startup space ▲construction of the Pohang International Exhibition and Convention Center ▲future food sources and youth employment and entrepreneurship in line with industrial diversification.


In particular, they agreed on the necessity of establishing a POSTECH Medical School for Pohang’s future and performed a campaign to attract the ‘POSTECH Medical School,’ reaffirming the youth’s hopes and determination to resolve regional medical imbalances and nurture talent.


Yang Seung-ri, president of the Pohang Youth Federation, said, “It is meaningful that Pohang’s representative youth organizations have come together to jointly consider Pohang’s future,” adding, “As youth leaders, we will unite with a heavy sense of responsibility, innovation, and passion to lead Pohang’s future.”


Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “We will continue to share and communicate major policies and draw Pohang’s future together with the youth,” adding, “We will strive to create a dignified city where youth want to stay by integrating their creativity, passion, and ideas into city administration.”
