Baek Hyun-jin, First Public Event After Assault Tomorrow... Attends Hope Concert

Rep. Kim Yeji Invited to Host Party Member Event in Constituency

Baek Hyun-jin, a member of the People Power Party, will resume public activities eight days after the assault incident.


On the 1st, Baek Hyun-jin's office announced that she is scheduled to attend the "2024 Lunar New Year Hope Concert with People Power Party Members and Their Families in Songpa-eul," held at the Songpa Book Museum in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 2nd.


This event is an opportunity to communicate with party members in Songpa-eul, Baek's electoral district, ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, hosted by the Songpa-eul Party Members' Council. In addition to Baek, Kim Ye-ji, the People Power Party's highest-ranking visually impaired member and her guide dog "Joy," will attend as invited guests. Commissioner Kim is working alongside Baek in the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee.

On the 25th of last month, at around 5:18 p.m., Baek was attacked by a male middle school student in a building in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The assailant struck Baek's head more than ten times with a stone, and Baek was transported to Soonchunhyang University Seoul Hospital, where she was hospitalized for three days. Since being discharged on the 27th of last month, Baek has refrained from external schedules and has been resting.


After her discharge, she posted on Facebook, "I am grateful to the citizens who have been concerned about me due to this incident." She added, "At the time of the incident, I even felt the fear of 'I might die,' but thanks to the help and consideration of many people, I am receiving good treatment and recovering." She also stated, "Becoming a direct victim of an unimaginable incident made me realize that such a horrific event is a deadly threat that any citizen could helplessly face." She pledged, "I will work even more desperately than before to keep my promise to protect the people and the residents of Songpa safely after a full recovery."
