Regular Curriculum, Fostering High-Potential Pre-Entrepreneurs
Focus on Green Startup Town Development Project↔Startup Campus
Dongmyung University (President Jeon Ho-hwan) has been finally selected as a ‘2024 Local Content Focus University’ in the public contest held by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Small Enterprise and Market Service).
This project aims to develop differentiated local content that combines creative ideas with the characteristics of regional resources within the university’s regular curriculum, and to nurture potential prospective entrepreneurs equipped with field experience necessary for local startups. Five universities, including Dongmyung University, were selected.
With this selection, Dongmyung University will receive 600 million KRW in project funding over two years starting this year. The university has established the Local Content Focus University Project Group and, centered on the newly established Department of Entrepreneurship in the Future Convergence College in 2024, plans to offer seven modular (microdegree) educational programs within the degree curriculum. These programs will be taught together with local experts, industry professionals, and field specialists, and graduates will be awarded modular degrees. Additionally, nine non-degree programs will be provided to cultivate local creators.
Professor No Seong-yeo, head of the Department of Entrepreneurship and project leader, stated, “We will expand the curriculum to the Future Convergence College, other departments, other colleges, and regional universities to nurture content development experts, space development experts, and commercial district development experts. We will also expand extracurricular programs to break down educational barriers and help students establish business plans in lifestyle, anchor stores, and local infrastructure.”
To this end, Dongmyung University will operate a local startup education research group and consultative body, and develop curricula and programs tailored to the characteristics of the region and its resources. The Doing Doing Action and Do Rent programs will be jointly operated with local companies to maintain sustainability as a local testbed.
Through this project, Dongmyung University plans to build a local startup hub and link it with the ‘Green Start Uptown Development Project,’ which aims to establish the northern area of Busan Port as a startup base in the green and digital sectors. The university intends to jointly operate a startup campus with universities, local governments, and public-private partnerships, each fulfilling their respective functions and roles, creating a local shared startup campus where participants in both degree and non-degree programs can grow as prospective entrepreneurs.
In December last year, Busan City and Dongmyung University signed an agreement to build the Busan Green Start Uptown on the university campus by 2026.
Dongmyung University will provide 2,000 square meters of school land free of charge for 30 years for the construction of the Busan Green Start Uptown and will support startup facilities and operational programs.
Busan City plans to invest 29 billion KRW to build the Busan Green Start Uptown by 2026 and commence full-scale operations from 2027. This facility is expected to play a central role as a startup support complex hub center.
