Jeongeup City in Jeollabuk-do is implementing a comprehensive plan to stabilize people’s livelihoods in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday.

The city announced on the 1st that it will operate a comprehensive situation room staffed by 12 people daily across seven sectors?disaster and accident response, medical and quarantine, prices, traffic, living environment, and water and sewage?during the four-day holiday from the 9th to the 12th.

In particular, with the declaration of the end of COVID-19, the number of visitors returning to their hometowns is expected to increase compared to last year, so the city plans to actively respond by ensuring citizens’ safety and revitalizing the local economy simultaneously.

Additionally, to prepare for emergency patients, the city will operate one 24-hour emergency medical institution, 21 on-duty medical institutions, 19 health centers, health branches, and clinics, and 18 holiday duty pharmacies during the holiday period.

Detailed information about the medical institutions and pharmacies operating during the holiday can be found on the city hall and health center websites, as well as through the emergency medical information service guidance system.

Along with this, safety inspections of major facilities will be conducted to thoroughly prepare for various safety accidents, and an animal infectious disease situation room will be operated to respond to outbreaks such as AI (avian influenza), African swine fever, and foot-and-mouth disease.

In particular, to prevent the introduction of animal diseases, the city plans to strengthen disinfection at each farm and operate key and control checkpoints, putting full effort into preventing further spread.

The city will implement price stabilization measures, traditional market shopping campaigns, and direct trade markets for the Lunar New Year to alleviate household burdens caused by rising prices, stabilize the livelihoods of local workers, and invigorate the local economy.

Furthermore, to ensure convenience and safety for holiday travelers, a traffic countermeasure team will be operated, with special deployment of traffic guidance and enforcement personnel at habitual congestion and bottleneck points such as Jeongeup Station, the terminal, and Saemgoul Market. Additionally, 61 public parking lots will be opened free of charge.

To provide a pleasant environment, the city will maintain road facilities, remove roadside accumulations, illegal advertisements, and urban parks, and operate a living environment countermeasure team to efficiently manage household waste generated during the holiday. A water and sewage countermeasure team will also be organized to prevent any administrative gaps that may occur overall.

Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “We will implement sector-specific measures to minimize residents’ inconveniences so that citizens can spend a safe and comfortable Lunar New Year holiday,” adding, “We will do our best to stabilize people’s livelihoods by operating a comprehensive situation room to prepare for emergencies such as various incidents and accidents.”
