'Seol Holiday Dumpling Making' and 'Goods Sharing Event' with Yeongdeungpo-gu Social Welfare Council
Delivery of Daily Necessities and Seol Food to Low-Income Vulnerable Groups... Realizing a Happy Yeongdeungpo Together
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that warm gestures of support for neighbors in need within the local community are continuing in celebration of the Lunar New Year holiday.
On the 22nd, the nonprofit organization ‘Suwa Jin-ui Sarang Deohagi’ (Director Ahn Sang-su) donated 100 premium winter blankets to the district as part of their neighborly love sharing campaign. ‘Suwa Jin-ui Sarang Deohagi’ has been donating goods to neighbors in need for several years using proceeds raised through charity performances aimed at realizing social welfare through culture.
The 100 blankets donated this year were distributed to a total of 100 low-income child-rearing households, including grandparent-headed and single-parent families, in cooperation with each neighborhood community center.
Additionally, warm support from the ‘Yeongdeungpo-gu Social Welfare Council’ continues. On the 31st, the council prepared 2,000 dumplings on the day to support a warm and abundant holiday for socially marginalized groups in the area, packaging the dumplings along with rice cake soup ingredients and beef bone broth, and delivered them to a total of 200 socially marginalized households.
Furthermore, on February 2nd, a goods-sharing event for low-income residents in the area will be held. Lunar New Year food packages including beef bone soup, sweet rice drink (sikhye), and yakgwa (traditional Korean honey cookies), along with masks, health supplements, and daily necessities worth a total of 130 million KRW will be distributed to about 50 social welfare facilities in the district through the ‘Yeongdeungpo-gu Social Welfare Council.’ This event is sponsored by ▲Korea International Hunger Relief Organization ▲Koscom ▲Gabo Trading ▲Handok Cosmetics.
The district also reported that support continues for the annual ‘Hope Ondol Warm Winter Campaign.’ This campaign is a representative winter fundraising project conducted in cooperation with Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul City, and the Seoul Community Chest of Korea. It began as a support activity for low-income groups following the IMF financial crisis and has continued to this day.
This year, the district has raised its fundraising target by 100 million KRW from the previous year to set a goal of 2 billion KRW, running the campaign until February 14th. The funds and goods raised will be used to support low-income residents in maintaining a warm winter through living stabilization expenses, housing support, medical expenses, and more.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “The small gestures of our residents will be a great help to marginalized groups who may be struggling through the winter due to cold waves and rising prices,” and added, “We thank the donors who have taken the lead in sharing warmth and creating a happy community together.”
