'Disabled e-Baumut' Operation Starts Today
The "Disabled e-Learning Center" takes its first step today (the 1st). It is a copyright remote education system established by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Copyright Commission. It provides various features to ensure that visually and hearing-impaired individuals can receive copyright education without inconvenience. These include braille files of educational materials for the visually impaired, screen narration and reading, high-contrast screens, screen size adjustment, as well as sign language and subtitles for the hearing impaired. A Ministry of Culture official stated, "We formed a learning support council with experts from organizations related to people with disabilities and actively reflected the field opinions gathered from five meetings."
Until now, there was no support system for copyright education targeting approximately 670,000 visually and hearing-impaired individuals. Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture is gradually building a remote copyright education system for people with disabilities. Last year, they established a learning support system and developed ten types of educational content each for the visually and hearing impaired. These include titles such as "You See As Much As You Know: Copyright!", "Core Highlights! Copyright Counseling Cases", "Click! Various Copyrights", and the Copyright Utilization White Paper. This year, they will produce five types each, including "An Educational Course for Disabled Artists to Protect Their Rights." The content will be provided to organizations related to people with disabilities, special schools, and others capable of remote education to increase utilization.
Jung Hyang-mi, Director of the Copyright Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, said, "The Disabled e-Learning Center will greatly help people with disabilities enhance their understanding of copyright and prevent related infringements." She added, "We hope this will expand educational opportunities for people with disabilities and promote their social participation."
