Gwangjin-gu Supports Closure Waste Disposal Costs for Small Sewing Industry Businesses

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is providing support for disposal costs to alleviate the burden of waste fabric disposal for small sewing industry businesses in the district.

According to Seoul city statistics, there are 1,193 sewing businesses in Gwangjin-gu, accounting for 53% of all manufacturing industries, with the majority being small-scale sewing businesses with fewer than 10 employees.

Accordingly, under the Gwangjin-gu Urban Small Business Support Ordinance, the district provides 75ℓ volume-based garbage bags, 60 bags per quarter, to small sewing businesses.

Last year, a total of 44,560 garbage bags were provided to 206 businesses.

The support target is sewing businesses with fewer than 10 employees. Applicants must submit an application form along with documents verifying the number of employees via the district’s website. Applications will be accepted year-round until the budget is exhausted. However, for businesses with difficulty using the internet, applications can be submitted in person at the district office or the local community service center where the business is located.

After document verification, selected businesses will receive quarterly deliveries of garbage bags via courier to their business location for one year.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “We are supporting disposal costs to reduce the operational burden on small sewing businesses,” and added, “We will continue to develop policies that provide practical help to small businesses so that the sewing industry in Gwangjin-gu can grow further.”

In addition, Gwangjin-gu established the Sewing Industry Comprehensive Support Center last year and is working to revitalize the sewing industry by providing one-on-one customized training for sewing businesses and prospective entrepreneurs.
