Gijang-gun Seafood Experience Promotion Center Children's Experience Room Renovated as 'SEA CLASS 678'

Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) announced on the 31st that the children’s experience room at the Gijang Seafood Experience Promotion Center, located in Daebyeon Port, Gijang-eup, has completed its renovation and will reopen under the new name ‘SEA CLASS 678’ starting February 1.

The new name ‘SEA CLASS 678’ was chosen to enhance recognition as a specialized experience space for the sea and seafood. Here, ‘SEA CLASS’ means a science classroom themed around the sea and seafood, and ‘678,’ derived from the center’s road address (Gijanghaean-ro 678), represents the primary age group of children using the experience room: 6, 7, and 8 years old.

Since March of last year, the county has transformed the space previously used as a seafood sales area within the center into a children’s experience room, operating specialized science experience programs focused on the sea and seafood for infants and young children. As a result, family visitors have increasingly come to the center, with the average monthly visitors rising about sixfold, establishing the promotion center as a new tourist attraction in Daebyeon Port.

To further activate the children’s experience room, the county invested 90 million KRW of public funds starting in October last year to carry out interior renovations. This created an environment tailored to children’s perspectives, allowing more visitors to participate during program operations.

Additionally, a variety of experience tools such as blocks, educational kits, and experimental instruments for children were provided, enabling children to engage in self-directed experiential learning even when programs are not in session.

Furthermore, the county is preparing weekday seafood cooking classes and programs utilizing the drying facility for group visitors such as daycare centers and kindergartens, with pilot operations planned for March to April.

A Gijang-gun official stated, “‘SEA CLASS 678’ was designed as a space to conduct sea and seafood experiences and programs against the backdrop of the Gijang sea,” adding, “We hope many people visit with their families and have opportunities for diverse experiences and learning.”

The weekend experience programs operated at the center can be reserved and participated in through the Naver Smart Place system, with a participation fee of 5,000 KRW. The Gijang Seafood Promotion Center operates from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM and is closed on Mondays. For more details, please contact the Gijang Seafood Experience Promotion Center.
