Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Selected as a Good Policy for 'Training Migrant Women Cooking Instructors'

The lifelong learning project ‘Training Instructors for World Home Cooking’ in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has been selected as a ‘Good Policy’.

On the 31st, the district announced that the ‘Training Instructors for World Home Cooking Course’ won the ‘2024 Korea Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Award’ hosted by the ‘National Lifelong Learning City Council’.

The ‘Lifelong Learning City Good Policy Award’ aims to discover and share excellent lifelong education policies, and Gwangsan-gu has won the award for two consecutive years, following last year.

The ‘Training Instructors for World Home Cooking Course’ is part of Gwangsan-gu’s ‘Education Blind Spot Support Project’ to support the stable settlement and job assistance of marriage migrant women.

Since last year, the course, consisting of cooking method research and practical training, has been operated, and currently, 23 migrant women are active as instructors promoting the charm of their native cuisines.

They have conducted cooking classes and demonstration lectures for citizens and local lifelong learning institutions with various dishes such as Uzbekistan’s ‘Osh (plov)’, Vietnam’s ‘Pho Xao (fried rice noodles)’, Cambodia’s ‘Bai Sach Chrouk (pork rice bowl)’, and Brazil’s ‘Cachorro Quente (Brazilian hot dog)’.

This year, the district plans to support migrant women who have transformed into world home cooking instructors to carry out various activities by linking with diverse lifelong learning programs.
