Gwangju Seo-gu Council "Welcomes Moonlight Railroad Special Act Passing in National Assembly"

All members of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council welcomed the passage of the "Dalbit Railroad Special Act" (hereinafter referred to as the 'Special Act') at the 2nd plenary session of the 318th extraordinary meeting held on the 31st, and urged the prompt promotion of the Dalbit Railroad construction.

The Seo-gu Council stated, "The construction of the Dalbit Railroad is a 30-year-long cherished project for the residents of Yeongnam and Honam. It will lead to balanced national territorial development and east-west harmony, and serve as a pivotal foundation for the new leap of the southern Yeongnam-Honam economic zone," adding, "This important project for national balanced development should not proceed based on simple economic logic centered on the metropolitan area or political interests."

Baek Jong-han, the council member who proposed the recommendation, said, "The Dalbit Railroad must be constructed as soon as possible to resolve the extreme regional conflicts between Yeongnam and Honam, which have been politically exploited since liberation," and added, "This bill, co-proposed by a record 261 members of the National Assembly and symbolizing bipartisan cooperation, has passed the National Assembly review. I hope it will serve as a catalyst for coexistence and harmony between Yeongnam and Honam."

All Seo-gu council members demanded through the recommendation the "withdrawal of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's refusal to exempt the preliminary feasibility study" and the "prompt promotion of the Dalbit Railroad construction."
