GS The Fresh Increases Domestic Seafood Consumption by 35% at Seafood Expo

Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Korea Fisheries Expo Held
Sales Increase: Abalone 634%, Scallops 139%, etc.

GS Retail's supermarket GS The Fresh announced on the 31st that sales of domestic seafood increased by 35.4% compared to the same period last year (January 10?30) at the Korea Seafood Expo, which has been operating since the 10th of this month in collaboration with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.


The Seafood Expo is a win-win event organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. Since 2021, GS The Fresh has been offering up to 50% discount benefits by adding its own additional discounts on top of the Ministry's supported discount of up to 20,000 KRW per person.

The year-on-year sales growth rates of major products introduced by GS The Fresh at this Seafood Expo were ▲Abalone 634.1% ▲Scallops 138.9% ▲Domestic Hairtail 74.7% ▲Squid 19.5% ▲Mackerel 15.1%.


The proportion of domestic seafood sales also increased through the Seafood Expo. Last year, GS The Fresh's seafood sales composition was about 69.4% domestic and 30.6% imported, but during the Seafood Expo period, the domestic share expanded to 74.1%, with imports at 25.9%.


GS The Fresh will continue its domestic seafood discount promotion until the 13th of next month, offering products such as ▲Tongyeong Fresh Oysters 250g for 5,980 KRW ▲Domestic Prepared Mackerel Special 1 piece for 5,800 KRW ▲Cut Pollack 1kg for 5,800 KRW ▲Yeonggwang Chamgulbi 20 pieces for 11,800 KRW ▲Handline Prepared Squid 5 pieces for 9,800 KRW ▲Abalone 8 pieces medium size for 9,800 KRW.


Additionally, on the 31st, GS The Fresh held a win-win growth workshop for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) co-prosperity management activities at the GS Retail headquarters in Yeoksam-dong, inviting representatives from 30 domestic seafood-related partner companies to share the 2024 seafood consumption trends and strategic directions.


Kim Kyung-jin, Senior Executive Director of the Fresh MD Division at GS Retail, said, "Despite high prices and adverse domestic and international conditions for seafood consumption, GS The Fresh is making efforts to secure safe food and develop sales channels for fishermen through reasonable promotions to satisfy customers. We will fulfill our corporate social responsibility through continuous participation in the Korea Seafood Expo and co-prosperity workshops with our partners."
