Ui-Banghak Light Rail Total Project Cost Confirmed at 426.7 Billion Won

Ui-Banghak Light Rail Passes Total Project Cost Review by Ministry of Economy and Finance... Basic Plan Approval Scheduled for February, Construction Targeted for First Half of 2025

Dobong-gu (District Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced on the 30th that the total project cost for the Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit was approved at 426.7 billion KRW during the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's Total Project Cost Financial Review Committee meeting.

With this, all procedures to obtain the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's basic plan approval have been completed. The Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit, delayed for the past 16 years, gained momentum after passing the demand forecast reassessment in May last year. In June last year, the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment was completed, followed by the review of transfer benefit feasibility and design appropriateness in December.

The district expects that once the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's basic plan approval is granted in early February and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's central investment review process is completed in May, construction can begin through the decision on the bidding method.

Currently, the district is requesting Seoul City to issue the project using a turnkey method (design-build lump-sum bidding method) to shorten the design period for the prompt commencement of the Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit, and is working with related agencies aiming to start construction by the first half of 2025 at the latest.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, “We will focus the district's administrative power to ensure that the Ui-Banghak Light Rail Transit can begin construction in the first half of 2025,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to establish a convenient transportation environment for our residents.”
