TASS news agency, citing sources from the relevant authorities, reported on the 30th (local time) that an analysis of the voice and flight data recorder recovered from the cockpit of the Ilyushin (IL)-76 military transport plane that crashed in the Belgorod region of Russia confirmed this fact. The source said, "All possibilities regarding the IL-76 transport plane crash have been ruled out through the black box data, and it has been confirmed that there was an external impact," adding, "In other words, it was shot down in midair, and everything is clear."

Russia claims that the transport plane that crashed on the 24th near the Ukraine border in Belgorod was shot down by a missile fired by the Ukrainian military, and that 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, who were to be exchanged for Russian prisoners, were on board the transport plane.

The Russian Ministry of Defense criticized Ukraine for carrying out a terrorist attack despite knowing that its own prisoners were on board the transport plane. On the other hand, Ukraine has questioned the credibility of Russia's claims, including whether prisoners were on board. Ukraine also pointed out that the investigation by Russian authorities related to this incident is not being conducted transparently.
