Skydiver in the UK Dies After Parachute Fails to Deploy Despite Jumping 5,000 Times

British Skydiver Who Jumped from 29th Floor
Bereaved Family: "Fatal Mistake Despite Considerable Experience"

A British skydiver died after jumping from a 75m building when his parachute failed to open.

On the 29th (local time), British daily The Guardian and other foreign media reported that on the evening of the 27th, around 6 p.m., 33-year-old British man Netty Odinson from Cambridgeshire was found dead in Pattaya, Thailand. Odinson reportedly fell from the 29th floor of a 32-story building and suffered the accident. At the time, Odinson jumped after equipping protective gear such as a helmet, but his parachute did not open properly.

Odinson was active as a skydiver during his lifetime, and he frequently posted videos and photos of himself skydiving on social media. In a video recorded just before the fall, Odinson was seen carefully checking his equipment while talking with a colleague.

Odinson’s younger brother, Ed Harrison, said, "My brother traveled around the world and skydived about 5,000 times," adding, "Despite his considerable experience, he made a fatal mistake." He continued, "Many people will miss him," and said, "He loved fun things and got along well with children. He was my hero."

Local police stated, "The deceased experienced a parachute malfunction during the skydiving process." It is known that a friend was also present at the accident site to film Odinson’s skydiving. Police said, "We have questioned the friend who filmed the skydiving video," and "Forensic investigators are conducting further investigations into this case." A spokesperson for the British Foreign Office expressed, "We will support the family of the British national who died in Thailand."
