Jeongeup City Library in Jeonbuk announced on the 30th that it will operate the "Book Reading Marathon" from next month 1st to September 30th.
The Book Reading Marathon, promoted to help citizens develop healthy reading habits, is an online reading race that combines book reading and marathon running.
Anyone who is a member of the city library can apply individually or as a family, and applications can be made through the library's website.
The reading race courses include a course for children under 7 years old, a walking course (5 km), a shortened course (10 km), a half course (21 km), and a full course (42.195 km).
The event proceeds by converting one page read by the participant into 2 meters, and the books can be either borrowed from the city library or personally read books. However, comics and magazines are excluded.
The children's course is considered completed if the participant has a record of borrowing more than 120 books during the event period without writing a review.
Participants who complete the Book Reading Marathon will receive a certificate of completion and a souvenir, and the number of books they can borrow next year will be increased from 5 to 10.
In addition, outstanding finishers will be awarded the Mayor's Award and the Jeongeup Office of Education Superintendent's Award.
A library official said, "We hope that many citizens will participate in the Book Reading Marathon again this year and experience the sense of achievement from completion and the joy of reading."
