Gyeongbuk Province and Research Institutes Sign MOU to Establish Semiconductor Specialized Complex

Joining Forces for Joint Technology Cooperation, R&D, and Workforce Development in Semiconductor Industry

On the 29th, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province signed a business agreement with Gyeongbuk Province and semiconductor-related research institutes to establish a semiconductor specialized complex at the city hall's main conference room.

The event was attended by Lee Dal-hee, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongbuk Province, Mayor Kim Jang-ho, National Assembly members Koo Ja-geun and Kim Young-sik, Chairman Ahn Joo-chan of the City Council, officials from Gyeongbuk Province, and seven affiliated research institutes (Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL), Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering & Technology (KICET), Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI), Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI), Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI), and Gumi Electronics & Information Technology Institute (GERI)).


This business agreement includes ▲(Technology Development) supporting the discovery, development, and commercialization of core technologies to foster leading companies and advance the industry within the semiconductor specialized complex ▲(Human Resources Development) strengthening the human resource exchange system through workforce training and R&D expert exchanges within the semiconductor specialized complex ▲(Infrastructure Operation) supporting companies and managing and advising research and development infrastructure to create an ecosystem for the semiconductor specialized complex ▲(Administrative and Financial Support) building cooperative networks and providing administrative and financial support for fostering the semiconductor specialized complex.


Gumi City expects this agreement to inject new momentum into the creation of the semiconductor specialized complex through joint technological cooperation, research and development, and human resource development in the semiconductor industry.


Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, “Collaboration with semiconductor-related research institutes is essential for Gumi City to become a hub for the semiconductor industry. We expect this business agreement to serve as an opportunity to establish a successful collaboration model with affiliated research institutes.”


Gumi City has been actively working to understand trends and prospects in the semiconductor industry and to build networks among industry, academia, and research by operating promotional booths at the Korea Semiconductor Display Technology Society Networking Day held in Seongnam City on the 18th and at the 31st Korea Semiconductor Academic Conference held in Gyeongju from the 24th to the 26th.
