A Woman in Her 30s Sent Threatening Messages to the Sanggan-nyeo
"Please Stop" She Begged, but the Threats Continued
A woman in her 30s who sent multiple threatening messages to her husband's mistress, with whom he had an inappropriate relationship, was sentenced to a fine.
On the 27th, Judge Kim Tae-hwan of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 15 sentenced A (31) to a fine of 2 million won for violating the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes. A was charged with sending 342 threatening text messages to her husband's mistress B (29) from October 2021, after discovering her husband's affair, until November 1, 2022.
A sent multiple messages to B questioning the facts related to the affair, such as "You are not someone who should be happy," "You who destroyed someone else's family through an affair can never be happy," "Because of you, our son lost his father," and "Can you sleep soundly?" She also sent messages belittling B's appearance. In October 2022, B begged, saying "Please stop," and "I'm sorry," but A did not stop and continued sending threatening messages.
The court recognized A's guilt based on A's testimony in court and B's police statements as evidence. Judge Kim stated, "If the defendant does not pay the fine, the defendant will be detained in a labor camp for a period calculated at 100,000 won per day."
Adultery refers to a married person engaging in an extramarital affair with someone other than their spouse. Article 241 of the Criminal Act stipulates that a person with a spouse who commits adultery shall be punished by imprisonment for up to two years. However, on February 26, 2015, the Constitutional Court ruled the adultery law unconstitutional by a 7 to 2 decision, and adultery as a crime has since disappeared into history.
