Seodaemun-gu Implements 'Visiting Local Tax Refund Service for the Elderly'

"Extinguished by statute of limitations if not applied for within 5 years"

Seodaemun-gu Implements 'Visiting Local Tax Refund Service for the Elderly'

Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced on the 29th that it has recently launched a 'Visiting Local Tax Refund Service for the Elderly.'

The district sends monthly notices by mail to local tax refund recipients due to overpayment or double payment. However, since elderly individuals sometimes do not check their mailboxes or do not apply for refunds even after seeing the notices, this service was initiated.

For local tax refund recipients aged 65 and over who cannot be reached by phone, the district visits their residences directly to clearly explain the occurrence of refund amounts and the refund application procedures. Additionally, refund application forms are accepted on-site. If the resident is not home, a notice with contact information is posted on the entrance door.

An elderly person who received a visit from a district office employee expressed satisfaction, saying, "I just left the refund notice as it was, but I am grateful for the kind explanation during the visit."

Mayor Lee Seong-heon stated, "Local tax refunds expire after five years if not claimed, so we will do our best to protect taxpayers' rights through proactive on-site guidance."
