Busan City Implements Special Measures for Safety Accidents on Urban Railroad Escalators Escalator Safety Guard Activities.

These special measures have been established to prevent falls and secondary accidents involving vulnerable transportation users caused by escalator safety accidents. To this end, the two organizations have closely analyzed the causes of accidents and the stations where accidents frequently occur.

First, starting from February 1, the city and the corporation will fully deploy “Escalator Safety Keepers” at 35 stations.

The Escalator Safety Keepers will guide citizens who intend to use elevators instead of escalators with handcarts, strollers, etc., and promote elevator usage rules. They will also respond to emergencies by operating the elevator emergency stop button in case of escalator accidents.

Linked with the senior job project, 354 Escalator Safety Keepers have been sequentially deployed at stations since January 22, and from February 1, they will be fully deployed at 35 stations.

Additionally, plans include ▲ installation of elevator reverse run prevention devices (total 651 units) ▲ reduction of escalator speed frequently used by the elderly (from 25 to 15?20 m/min) ▲ enhanced inspection of escalators at transfer stations (38 units, from once a month to twice a month) ▲ conducting elevator safety use campaigns (twice a month) ▲ providing on-site safety education for vulnerable transportation users, along with facility improvements and strengthened safety rule promotion activities.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “For preventing escalator accidents, it is most important that users first comply with elevator safety usage rules,” adding, “Through the activities of Safety Keepers and continuous campaigns, we will establish a safety culture, and we will do our best in urban railway safety management through escalator facility improvements and strengthened inspections.”
