Housing to Support Independence of Youth Leaving Child Welfare Facilities
Rental Conditions at About 40% of Nearby Market Price
All Houses Require a Deposit of 1 Million Won
LH announced that from the 29th, it will begin accepting applications for 400 purchase lease housing units for youth preparing for independence.
The purchase lease housing for youth preparing for independence is provided to support the independence of youth leaving child welfare facilities, in accordance with the "Supplementary Measures to Support Youth Preparing for Independence" announced last November.
LH prioritizes supplying its existing youth purchase lease housing to youth preparing for independence. Over the past four years (2020?2023), LH has provided a total of 566 purchase lease housing units for youth preparing for independence.
The supplied housing units are youth purchase lease homes equipped with refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, etc., reflecting the needs of youth residents, and can be occupied for up to 10 years.
The rental conditions are about 40% of the nearby market price. All housing units require a deposit of 1 million KRW, and rent varies by unit.
Eligibility requires applicants to be currently without a home. Youth preparing for independence who have left foster care or child welfare facilities within the past five years under the Child Welfare Act are eligible, including those with extended protection, those scheduled to end protection, and those scheduled to leave facilities. There are no separate income or asset criteria.
Applicants can check available housing nationwide through prior consultation at LH Residential Welfare Offices regardless of their current residence. Applications can be submitted by visiting the relevant Residential Welfare Office. If there is no immediately available housing in the area, applicants can register as standby tenants.
Applications will be accepted from the 29th until all units are filled. Detailed procedures and information can be found in the tenant recruitment announcement posted on the 'LH Subscription Plus' website. Telephone consultations are also available through the LH Call Center and U-Start Counseling Center.
Ko Byung-wook, Head of LH National Housing Welfare Headquarters, stated, "We will strive to be a reliable support through continuous housing assistance so that youth preparing for independence, who must take their first steps into society early, can settle as healthy members of society."
