Yangcheon-gu, 1.1 Billion Won Invested in 59 Resident-Proposed Projects through Participatory Budgeting

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that out of 154 projects directly proposed by residents, 59 final resident participation budget projects were selected through a 2.6:1 competition ratio, and 1.1 billion KRW will be invested this year to promote them.

The resident participation budget system is designed to enhance the transparency and fairness of local finances by guaranteeing residents the opportunity to participate in the budget formulation process.

This year, the district allocated a total of about 1.1 billion KRW, including approximately 880 million KRW for 17 projects proposed by general residents and about 260 million KRW for 42 projects reflecting local characteristics proposed by the Dong Resident Autonomy Committees, supporting various resident-experienced projects in areas such as ▲infrastructure improvement ▲welfare and health ▲environment ▲culture ▲community harmony.

Representative general proposal projects include expanding the tool rental project targeting nine neighborhoods: Mok 1, 2, 5-dong, Sinwol 1 to 3-dong, and Sinjeong 1, 4, 7-dong, considering resident demand and accessibility. In addition, film-type light-emitting diode (LED) location guide signs will be installed on women’s safe return paths (from Sinjeong Station Exit 2 to Jungang-ro 55-gil 20 and three other locations) to create a safe nighttime walking environment.

Also, the old fence on the walking trail of Gyenam Park will be replaced, and the barrier-free forest deck trail at Jiyang Mountain will be maintained to create a pleasant park. Furthermore, anti-slip construction will be carried out on the steep side roads in the Omok-ro 38-gil area of Sinjeong 4-dong to establish safe roads.

Many of the projects proposed by the Resident Autonomy Committees were specialized projects practicing environmental protection. In six neighborhoods?Mok 2, 3, 5-dong, Sinwol 4-dong, and Sinjeong 1 and 3-dong?various eco-friendly programs such as tree planting, recycled crafts experience, flea markets, and environmental education will be operated. In Sinwol 4 and 5-dong, digital barrier removal efforts will be made through informatization education for the elderly, including smartphone and unmanned kiosk usage.

In addition, in line with the increasing trend of pet households, Sinwol 1 and 2-dong and Sinjeong 2 and 4-dong plan to promote lectures related to companion plants and animals and pet etiquette campaigns. Projects to address welfare blind spots, such as sharing side dishes, health guardians, and laundry support, will also be carried out throughout the region.

Meanwhile, the district is recruiting the “7th Yangcheon-gu Resident Participation Budget Deliberation Committee” by February 15 to contribute to transparent local finances. The number of recruits is up to 80, and applicants must be residents of Yangcheon-gu as of the announcement date (January 25) or work at institutions, organizations, or for-profit corporations located in the district.

Those wishing to apply can fill out the related documents on the district office website’s public notice board and submit them via email or mail to the person in charge, or submit them to the district office’s Planning and Budget Division office or each Dong community center. The district plans to notify the selection results individually by the end of February, and the selected committee members will serve a two-year term starting from March this year.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We hope for much interest and participation in recruiting the 7th Resident Participation Budget Deliberation Committee for transparent and democratic budget management, and we will strive to solidly promote resident-experienced resident participation budgets to create a livable city, Yangcheon.”
