EcoPro has surpassed an annual export volume of 100,000 tons of cathode materials for the first time in 10 years.

EcoPro announced that last year’s high-nickel cathode material exports reached approximately 107,000 tons, an increase of about 24.4% compared to the previous year (around 86,000 tons). The export volume of high-nickel cathode materials has steadily increased since first surpassing 10,000 tons in 2018 with 16,000 tons, followed by 18,000 tons in 2019, 28,000 tons in 2020, and 47,000 tons in 2021.

Since EcoPro first exported cathode materials to Sony in 2013, it has developed technology to produce high-performance high-nickel cathode materials, surpassing 100,000 tons in exports within 10 years. At that time, all cathode materials were imported from overseas, and EcoPro is recognized for pioneering the era of domestic cathode material exports through localization of materials.

The 100,000 tons of cathode materials EcoPro exported last year is enough to produce up to 1.2 million electric vehicles, with about 60% used for electric vehicle batteries and the remaining 40% for batteries in power tools. EcoPro expects its high-nickel cathode material exports to increase to approximately 120,000 tons this year.

In recognition of its contribution to exports, EcoPro received awards at the 60th Trade Day event: EcoPro BM was awarded the “$3 Billion Export Tower,” EcoPro EM the “$2 Billion Export Tower,” and EcoPro Materials the “$500 Million Export Tower.”

It is analyzed that the high-nickel cathode materials exported by EcoPro hold significance beyond simple material exports, as they are supplied to domestic battery cell makers and play a crucial role in the K-battery ecosystem.
