"Left-wing camp even mobilizes children"
"We must wait for them to choose on their own"
It has been reported that A (15), a middle school student who struck People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin on the head with a stone, attended a rally supporting Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. The police have launched an investigation to verify the facts. Jeon Yeo-ok, a former lawmaker of the Grand National Party (the predecessor of the People Power Party) currently battling terminal colon cancer, emphasized, "We must stop politically indoctrinating children."
On the 27th, former lawmaker Jeon Yeo-ok posted on her blog titled "Leave the Kids Alone, Please!" stating, "The middle school student who hit lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin's head 17 times with a stone was revealed to be a supporter of the Democratic Party," and pointed out, "The student in question was said to have a strong interest in politics. He even posted photos of attending Democratic Party rallies."
Earlier, reports emerged that A shared a video in a group KakaoTalk chat room showing him participating in a rally attended by supporters of Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea. Wearing a blue beanie at the time, he filmed the video with citizens chanting "Lee Jae-myung" in the background.
Former lawmaker Jeon stated, "Political orientations and ideologies can change. However, starting from the 'mad cow disease incident,' the left-wing camp has notably mobilized not only students but even children. Do you remember the stroller protests? I consider that 'child abuse,'" and added, "They even made children shoot arrows at a target representing President Yoon Seok-youl. This is political indoctrination of children."
She continued, "Why do songs for children mention 'political prosecutors' and President Yoon Seok-youl? Could this be an attempt to create Red Guards like during the 'Cultural Revolution'?" and directly criticized, "It's all well and good, but please, leave the kids alone."
Furthermore, she stressed, "The middle school student who attacked lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin even promoted a specific political party," and urged, "Let's wait for these young ones to become adults and make their own choices. Please stop this horrific Red Guard play."
On the 25th, former lawmaker Jeon also expressed, "I cannot understand why a 15-year-old boy resorted to such violence. There are more than a few strange points," and suggested, "There must be someone behind this."
On the 25th at around 5:18 p.m., A attacked lawmaker Bae multiple times on the head with a stone at the entrance of a building in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Lawmaker Bae collapsed bleeding from her head. The police arrested A at the scene on charges of special assault and took him into custody. After investigating A in the presence of his guardian, the police arranged for emergency hospitalization. Emergency hospitalization is a system that allows a person suspected of mental illness to be admitted to a psychiatric medical institution for up to three days if there is an imminent risk of self-harm or harm to others. During the police investigation, A reportedly claimed that he went out two hours before the incident, met lawmaker Bae, and committed the act impulsively. He also stated that his depressive symptoms had worsened recently, and he was awaiting admission to a closed ward as instructed.
