Guro-gu Selected as ‘Best District’ in Performance Evaluation of Autonomous District Support Project for the Disabled and Companions

Guro-gu (District Mayor Moon Heon-il) was selected as the best district in Seoul's 2023 Performance Evaluation of the Support Project for Accompanying the Vulnerable Districts.

Guro-gu announced, "Among the 20 districts and 27 projects that participated in last year's Support Project for Accompanying the Vulnerable Districts, Guro-gu's 'Specialized Dental Treatment Service for the Disabled' was the only project to receive the highest award in the performance evaluation."

About 100 people, including Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, Guro-gu Mayor Moon Heon-il, and city council members, attended the performance report meeting held at Seoul City Hall on the 26th.

Guro-gu received the mayoral commendation and shared the efforts and achievements of the specialized dental treatment service for the disabled through a presentation.

The dental clinic for the disabled, located on the 4th floor of Guro-gu Public Health Center, provides free specialized dental treatments such as oral anesthesia, nerve treatment, prosthetic treatment, and gum surgery for people with severe disabilities. It performs over 2,000 treatments annually and conducts more than 1,000 on-site oral examinations at schools and organizations for the disabled each year. Every Thursday, members of the Guro-gu Dental Association volunteer to provide treatment, strengthening the cooperative system with the local community.

This project was selected as an incentive project of Seoul City's Support Project for Accompanying the Vulnerable Districts last year, securing about 90 million KRW in project funds, which allowed for safer improvements in the treatment environment.

It also contributed to winning the highest award in the inequality category at the 2023 National Basic Local Government Manifesto Best Practice Competition and was recognized as the best case of proactive administration in Guro-gu in the second half of 2023.

A Guro-gu official stated, "This is an essential project for people with severe disabilities who find it difficult to receive smooth treatment at general dental clinics," adding, "We will continue to do our best to promote policies that provide warm companionship where help is needed."
