From March 2, Dedicated Investigators Will Visit to Investigate School Violence Cases
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced on the 28th that the "Dedicated School Violence Investigator System," responsible for investigating school violence cases, will be fully implemented starting in March.
With the implementation of the system, school violence cases reported from March 2 will be investigated by dedicated school violence investigators who will visit schools to conduct investigations. Until now, when school violence occurred, internal dedicated organizations within the school handled the investigations. During this process, schools faced difficulties due to various complaints and grievances directed at teachers.
It is expected that this system will create an environment where teachers can focus on teaching and student guidance. Dedicated school violence investigators will be composed of holders of teaching certificates with experience in school violence work, student guidance, and student discipline (including retired teachers), retired police officers, youth experts, and those with investigation experience. The investigators will review case intake reports, visit schools to investigate cases, prepare investigation reports, and participate in case meetings and review committees.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will begin recruiting investigators through the Education Support Office websites starting on the 29th. The number of investigators will be allocated at around 15 to 40 per each of the 11 Education Support Offices in Seoul, considering the number of cases received.
Cho Hee-yeon, Superintendent of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, "We expect the Dedicated School Violence Investigator System to reduce teachers' workload and restore the educational capacity of schools." Superintendent Cho added, "However, since the system is being fully implemented just two months after the Ministry of Education's announcement, and all cases?including those that school principals could resolve independently?are subject to investigation, some issues such as the expansion of conflicts are anticipated. We will do our best to minimize these side effects."
