'Politician Terror' Recurrence... Minjoo Raises Government Responsibility
"If Lee Jae-myung Attack Investigation Had Been Firm, Deep Regret"
The Democratic Party of Korea expressed concern over the attack on People Power Party lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin, while also raising the issue of 'responsibility' aimed at the government and ruling party. They argued that similar incidents have repeated due to the lax response to the attack on Representative Lee Jae-myung.
On the morning of the 26th, Kim Young-jin, the party leader's political coordination chief, said on YTN Radio, "This is the second political terror attack after the attack on Representative Lee Jae-myung, so it is very shocking," but added, "If the government, ruling party, and police had taken the political terror against Representative Lee Jae-myung seriously, conducted an accurate investigation, revealed the perpetrator's face, disclosed the reasons for the apology statement, and taken firm measures, would additional political terror attacks have occurred? I deeply regret that."

Earlier, on the 2nd, Representative Lee Jae-myung was attacked with a weapon by a suspect disguised as a supporter while inspecting the site of the new airport on Gadeokdo Island in Busan. The Democratic Party formed a 'Party Leader Political Terror Countermeasures Committee' to urge a thorough investigation, but the police decided not to disclose the suspect's identity. In this context, the party suggested that the lax investigation of Representative Lee’s case may have led to the additional attack on lawmaker Bae Hyun-jin.
The Democratic Party called on the relevant authorities to take drastic measures, noting that the 'political terror' repeated only 23 days after Representative Lee was attacked.
On the morning of the same day, Hong Ik-pyo, the floor leader, said at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, "It is clear that this is a blatant political terror," and "Such unfortunate incidents have continued since the beginning of the year, and we urge the authorities to take drastic measures." He also emphasized, "The Democratic Party opposes all forms of terror that threaten democracy," and "We will further expand solidarity with the people who oppose hatred."
Supreme Council member Park Chan-dae said, "Terror should never happen to anyone, and no political terror should be tolerated," adding, "We must respond thoroughly and firmly, and a thorough investigation is also necessary for the terror incident against Representative Lee." Supreme Council member Jang Kyung-tae also urged, "To protect our democracy from attacks of hatred, we hope the investigative authorities will conduct a thorough investigation of political terror without any suspicion."
