Dongkuk Steel Obtains Environmental Product Declaration Certification for Beam, Section Steel, and Heavy Plate Products

Securing Competitiveness Amid Export Regulations Such as CBAM

Dongkuk Steel announced on the 26th that it has obtained the international Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification for its rebar, H-beam, and heavy plate product lines. The certified items include five types: straight rebar, coil rebar, H-beam, heat-treated heavy plate, and non-heat-treated heavy plate.

The Environmental Product Declaration certification is awarded to products that quantitatively disclose environmental impacts throughout the entire lifecycle?from raw material extraction to production, distribution, use, and disposal?in order to provide accurate environmental information.

As part of its mid- to long-term growth strategy, "Steel for Green," Dongkuk Steel has strengthened its product eco-management capabilities and export competitiveness by obtaining certification from the European international certification body, International EPD.

In response to sluggish domestic demand and a downturn in the construction industry, Dongkuk Steel is pursuing overseas market expansion through increased exports. With this certification, the company expects its product competitiveness to improve amid export regulations such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

Dongkuk Steel’s Environmental Product Declaration certification is a professional certification body-level certification obtained after on-site inspections by institutional evaluators and review by a deliberation committee, offering greater credibility compared to document-only certifications.

Dongkuk Steel formed a task force related to eco-certification in June last year and has been working for about six months to obtain the certification. Centered on this task force, Dongkuk Steel plans to complete additional certifications within the year, including the US UL EPD and domestic EPD certifications.
