Mileage 'Smile Point'
e-money integrated into 'Smile Cash'
Gmarket announced on the 26th that it will unify its multiple point systems into a single system called 'SmileCash' to enhance customer convenience.
Until now, Gmarket has operated 'SmilePoint,' a mileage-type point system, and 'SmileCash,' an e-money type system, separately. SmilePoints are volatile mileage earned through event rewards or provided by partners, which can be exchanged for discount coupons when accumulating over 1,000 points or converted into SmileCash when accumulating over 10,000 points. On the other hand, SmileCash can be used like cash without any amount limit on Gmarket and Auction. Gmarket expects that the integration will significantly improve usability by eliminating cumbersome procedures such as point exchanges.
As a follow-up to the point integration, events that previously provided SmilePoints will gradually switch to awarding SmileCash. Starting February 26, points previously given for writing product reviews will be provided as SmileCash. In March, the Auction 'Attendance Check' rewards, and in April, the Gmarket 'Attendance Check' rewards will be converted to SmileCash. Gmarket plans to complete the point integration across all areas by the first half of this year at the earliest.
A usage support policy for existing customers holding SmilePoints will also be established. Until the complete termination of SmilePoints, the 10,000 KRW minimum conversion limit will be removed, allowing full conversion to SmileCash starting from as little as 1 point.
