Korean Women's Soccer Star Ji So-yeon Joins Seattle in the US... "Proven Winner"

Ji So-yeon, the leading star of South Korean women's soccer, has joined the Seattle Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), regarded as the world's biggest stage. With this signing, Ji So-yeon has set a record as the first Korean player to have played in both England and the United States.

On the 25th (local time), the Seattle club announced on its website that it will be with Ji So-yeon through the 2025 season. The Seattle club stated, "We have completed the transfer fee agreement with Suwon FC. Ji So-yeon will join the team and participate in the preseason as soon as she obtains her visa." They added, "This contract marks an important moment in the club's history," highlighting Ji So-yeon's achievements after playing in England and South Korea.


Coach Laura Harvey emphasized, "Ji So-yeon is a 'proven winner.' She is a player who solves problems on the field in various ways," and said, "We are very pleased to bring her to our team."


Ji So-yeon made her professional debut in 2011 with Kobe Leonessa in Japan. In 2014, she became the first Korean female player to enter the English Women's Super League (WSL), where she experienced multiple championships, including six league titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, and one Community Shield.


Additionally, she has played in 154 A-match games, scoring 69 goals, setting records for the most appearances and most goals among both Korean male and female players.


Meanwhile, the NWSL, with 14 participating teams, is regarded as the highest-level women's soccer league worldwide. With this contract, Ji So-yeon has set a record as the first Korean female soccer player to have played in both England and the United States.
