Mechanized Joint Farming and Shiitake Mushroom Smart Farm
Focus on High Value-Added Processing Industry and Distribution Innovation
Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, is promoting an agricultural transformation to develop the challenging rural reality as a key task of the 8th local government administration.
To successfully promote the agricultural transformation, the Uljin-gun Agricultural Technology Center plans to invest 4 billion KRW this year to establish 140 hectares of mechanized double-cropping cooperative farming complexes by field and 20 smart farm shiitake mushroom cultivation units.
Additionally, efforts will be made to develop big-hit processed products for creating high added value in agricultural products and to improve education on online and offline distribution networks.
The mechanized double-cropping complex by field is a project to cultivate soybeans, wheat, and forage crops in double cropping on 140 hectares centered on the Wolsong fields in Pyeonghae-eup, where elderly landowners provide farmland and young farmers perform labor-saving cultivation using agricultural machinery.
This will increase productivity and significantly reduce management costs, and ripple effects to neighboring areas are also expected.
Furthermore, to lead ICT scientific farming in the agricultural sector, shiitake mushrooms and other crops will be cultivated in smart farms to be intensively fostered as new income crops for the region. Following the installation of 20 rental-type shiitake mushroom smart farms in 2023, 20 more units will be supported this year as a subsidy project.
Moreover, to create high added value for local agricultural products, focus will be placed on developing big-hit processed products using representative specialized local crops such as soybeans, Haebangpung, and Eumnamu.
In particular, to support online distribution and sales, the Green Agriculture University will provide education for the agricultural product marketing class and conduct on-site consulting simultaneously.
County Governor Son Byung-bok emphasized, “The development of the agricultural industry shows results when competitiveness in all areas of agriculture, including cultivation technology, processing, and distribution, develops evenly,” and said, “We will create an opportunity for the aging Uljin agriculture to grow to the next level through the agricultural transformation.”
