Operating 'Let's Compliment' Board to Foster a Kind Workplace Culture
Sharing Praise from Residents and Colleagues Received Through Various Channels to Sustain Motivation
Over 1,250 Posts So Far, Sincere Support for District Administration Also Included
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) operates a kindness bulletin board called ‘Let’s Compliment’. It is intended to praise hardworking employees, share stories of kind administration, encourage each other, and enhance a kindness mindset.
‘Let’s Compliment’ dates back to 2016 when Kim Kyung-ho was serving as the deputy mayor of Gwangjin-gu. Initially, the bulletin board was created to foster a culture of praise and harmony among employees who silently did their best in their duties. After eight years, it has transformed into a space where compliments received from residents are shared to encourage and support each other.
Compliments are received through various communication channels such as the Gwangjin-gu Office website, phone calls, and visits. Since 2016, a total of about 1,250 compliments have been posted. This shows how hard the staff have worked to meet residents’ expectations. There have been various stories in fields such as welfare, cleaning, and health.
A resident living alone in Guui 3-dong was diagnosed with colon cancer while struggling after a business failure. Feeling as if the sky was falling, the resident sought help at the community center, hoping to grasp at straws. With the staff’s assistance, the resident was able to receive medical benefits without any issues. Fortunately, the surgery went well, and the resident is currently recovering. The resident expressed gratitude, saying that the warm check-in calls and home visits from Guui 3-dong staff were a great help in standing back up.
This happened in Hwayang-dong. Someone violated the garbage disposal time and dumped trash in front of another resident’s store instead of their own home. Once trash piled up, others started dumping as well, making the surroundings dirty. The cleaning department stepped in. They identified the person who dumped the trash, took measures to prevent recurrence, and led efforts to eradicate illegal dumping through regular patrols. The reporting resident praised the calm and meticulous handling of the situation, which brought peace of mind, and expressed thanks as the neighborhood became cleaner.
Once, a resident hiking on Achasan slipped halfway up the mountain. Unsure whether to call 119 for a sprained ankle, the resident met an employee patrolling the hiking trail. The employee, working in the Parks and Greenery Department, checked the ankle, carried the resident to the village bus stop, and supported them. The resident left a message of thanks, saying, “I was panicked after injuring my ankle on the mountain, but fortunately, the staff member came by and helped me get through the crisis.”
In addition, heartfelt compliments from residents supporting district administration have continued, including the organization of street vendors near Gangbyeon Station, Achasan night trekking, operation of Gwangjin natural spring, extension of bus route 2222, residents’ life safety insurance, and operation of the lifelong education learning center.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “I thank all the employees who have silently done their best in their respective positions for the residents,” and added, “We will continue to provide kind and convenient administrative services tailored to residents’ needs and do our best to make Gwangjin-gu a better place to live.”
Meanwhile, the district is promoting various projects to improve employee kindness, such as kindness communication training, kindness meetings, kindness mileage operation, and selecting a kindness champion to enhance civil service response.
