OCI Holdings held a charity event to expand local exchanges in Sarawak, Malaysia, where its main product, polysilicon for solar power, is produced.

OCI Holdings' subsidiary, OCIM Sdn.Bhd. (OCIM), announced on the 25th that it held a Korean cooking class and a Korea-Malaysia cultural exchange charity event over two days on the 19th and 20th in Sarawak, Malaysia.

First, the Korean cooking class held on the 19th was conducted for the spouses of key political and business figures in Sarawak, Malaysia. The class featured popular Korean dishes and recipes in Malaysia. Renowned Korean chef Bae Jae-hoon led the class, demonstrating recipes such as pickled vegetables and Korean-style cucumber kimchi using local Malaysian ingredients, receiving enthusiastic responses from attendees.

Following this, the Korea-Malaysia Charity Gala Night held on the 20th was jointly hosted by OCI Holdings, the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), and the local social enterprise Green Generation. The event was organized to broaden mutual understanding of Korean and Malaysian cultures.

OCI Holdings Chairman Lee Woo-hyun personally attended the event, along with OCI Vice Chairman Kim Taek-joong, OCIM President Choi Sung-gil, and other OCI officials. Also present were over 450 domestic and international guests, including Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and SEDC Chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain.

The event featured diverse performances, including a classical music performance by the OCI Dream Ensemble, a classical music group composed of disabled musicians from OCI Dream, a Nanta performance combining percussion, and a performance by singer Kim Da-hyun.

This event marks the first large-scale cultural event hosted by a domestic company in Malaysia. It is expected to greatly contribute to the activation of cultural exchanges and the promotion of friendship between the two countries. The approximately 300 million KRW raised through the charity event will be used to support local disabled persons and youth programs in Malaysia. OCI Holdings plans to continue expanding disability education programs in collaboration with local educational institutions for the disabled.

Meanwhile, Sarawak, Malaysia, is the largest production base for OCI Holdings' main product, polysilicon for solar power. Currently, OCIM produces about 35,000 tons of polysilicon annually. More than 750 employees work at OCIM, and the workforce is continuously expanding in response to the growing global demand for solar power generation.

OCI Holdings is positioning Sarawak, Malaysia, as a production base for advanced chemical materials and is expanding its business areas beyond polysilicon. OCI Kumho, a joint venture between OCIM and Kumho P&B Chemicals, plans to produce 100,000 tons annually of ECH (Epichlorohydrin), an intermediate material for epoxy used in electric vehicles and wind turbine blades, starting in 2025.

OCI Holdings Chairman Lee Woo-hyun said, "As a leading company in Sarawak, Malaysia, OCI Holdings plans to expand local exchange activities and ESG initiatives to support business growth. We will continue to steadily expand polysilicon production capacity and proceed with scheduled new project investments, while strengthening competitiveness in high value-added advanced materials sectors such as semiconductors and secondary batteries."
