Shinsegae Food is taking a full-scale step to expand the alternative meat market by increasing the online and offline sales channels and menu applications of its alternative meat 'Better Meat.'

On the 25th, Shinsegae Food announced that it will start selling 'Better Meat Plant-Based Luncheon' at E-Mart stores nationwide. Starting next month, Shinsegae Food plans to hold tasting events at major E-Mart locations to provide positive experiences regarding the nutritional benefits, social value, and taste of alternative meat, accelerating efforts to expand the alternative meat market.


Better Meat is an alternative meat brand launched by Shinsegae Food in 2021 with the commitment to "contribute to human health, animal welfare, and the global environment through alternative meat better than meat." In particular, the Better Meat Plant-Based Luncheon canned ham, released in 2022 as the world's first product made from 100% plant-based ingredients such as soy protein and dietary fiber, has attracted attention from consumers concerned about the harmful effects of animal fats, cholesterol, and food additives like sodium nitrite used as colorants and preservatives in processed meat. It has maintained steady sales in online malls.


Shinsegae Food is also expanding bakery menus using Better Meat. Since 2022, Shinsegae Food has introduced Better Meat-based menus at bakery stores such as Boulangerie and E-Bakery within E-Mart. Starting today, it will simultaneously sell three popular items including the new menu 'Better Meatball Pizza Tart,' 'Better Meat Cold Cut Toast,' and 'Better Meat Pizza Bread.' The new Better Meatball Pizza Tart is a mini tart filled with Better Meat meatballs and pizza toppings, baked to perfection. It features a crispy texture and a savory flavor from the combination of pizza ingredients, making it ideal for meals or snacks.


In celebration of the upcoming Lunar New Year, the sales volume of Better Meat Plant-Based Luncheon gift sets will be doubled. The Better Meat Plant-Based Luncheon gift set, first introduced last Chuseok, received positive responses from consumers who consider health and eco-friendly packaging, leading to a complete sell-out of the prepared stock at major online malls. Shinsegae Food will double the sales volume of the Better Meat Plant-Based Luncheon gift sets (4-pack and 8-pack) for this Lunar New Year and will begin full-scale sales through online malls such as Gmarket, SSG.com, Coupang, and Market Kurly.


A Shinsegae Food official said, "Recently, consumer interest in human health and the global environment has increased significantly, leading to growing attention and purchases of alternative meat," adding, "We will lead the expansion of the domestic alternative meat market by increasing not only products but also sales channels for menu applications."
