[2024 Green Mobility] Leap to Global Service... Kakao Mobility

Kakao Mobility won the Mobility Technology Award (Asia Economy Representative Award) at the ‘2024 Korea Green Mobility Awards’.

Kakao Mobility is evolving beyond a leading domestic mobility platform into a global service. It aims to create a case of ‘platform export’ by domestic companies through three strategies: ▲ outbound service where domestic users use the Kakao T app as is while abroad ▲ inbound service where foreign users use Kakao T services in Korea ▲ direct overseas expansion targeting local users abroad.

In October last year, Kakao Mobility implemented a service allowing foreign visitors to call Kakao T taxis from the global apps they used in their home countries. Subsequently, the number of countries where Kakao T’s overseas vehicle call service is available expanded to 36, including Australia, Taiwan, and the Middle East. In December last year, the service also launched in the United States, the birthplace of mobility platforms.

Kakao Mobility also directly expanded overseas. For the first time among domestic mobility companies, it applied the entire infrastructure?from platform to driver app to control system?locally in Guam. Through this, local taxi drivers and tourists can use the Kakao T app to access the ‘taxi and airport pickup reservation service.’ This is the first attempt to provide services to both users and suppliers by applying Kakao Mobility’s platform operation know-how and information and communication technology directly, rather than through intermediary platform linkage.

Beyond services, Kakao Mobility is also contributing to strengthening Korea’s digital leadership through technology partnerships with overseas mobility industries. In Indonesia, it is exploring ways to achieve both ‘platform export’ and ‘tourist attraction’ by collaborating with local platforms such as ‘Soul Parking,’ ‘Ticket.com,’ and ‘DANA.’ Meanwhile, in Vietnam, it has transferred service infrastructure and mobility technology.
