Haenam-gun to Implement 73.3 Billion Won Economic Stimulus Measures

Early Launch of Long-Awaited Projects Drives Economic Stimulus in the Public Sector

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, is implementing an economic revitalization plan worth a total of 73.3 billion KRW to overcome the difficulties faced by the low-income economy due to the economic downturn and high inflation.


According to the county on the 24th, this plan, which covers five sectors including agriculture, fisheries, livestock, small business owners, and jobs, was prepared to proactively discover and promptly implement projects in the public sector to stimulate private sector economic vitality.


In particular, an economic revitalization strategy that enhances the tangible effects on the low-income economy, including vulnerable groups, will be actively promoted ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.


First, a total of 641 resident wish projects worth 31.8 billion KRW will be ordered early around the Lunar New Year holiday. The county will place early orders for 192 projects worth 9.5 billion KRW in January and 449 projects worth 22.3 billion KRW in February to boost the holiday economy.


Various job projects will also be launched early, starting jobs for the elderly, disabled, public workers, and youth between January and February, operating job projects for about 3,000 people annually with support of 15.9 billion KRW. Including youth retention incentives, a total of 16.3 billion KRW is expected to be invested in the job sector.

The Haenam Love Gift Certificate, which plays a significant role in supporting small business owners and promoting a virtuous cycle in the local economy, plans to issue 100 billion KRW this year.


In this regard, welfare points worth about 2.4 billion KRW for public officials will be paid in Haenam Love Gift Certificates before the Lunar New Year holiday, and a 10% discount event on the Haenam Love Gift Certificates will be held throughout February.


Around 620 million KRW will be invested year-round for facility improvements, management consulting, and marketing to support small business owners, and 430 million KRW will be provided to alleviate economic burdens such as electricity bills, delivery fees, card fees, and disaster insurance self-payments for small business establishments.


As part of the strategy to revitalize traditional markets such as Maeil Market, agreements will be signed with related organizations like Hanaro Mart, and various discount events such as Value Day and Cooking King contests will be promoted, along with ongoing efforts to revitalize commercial districts and modernize traditional markets.


A total of about 12.3 billion KRW will be invested to stabilize the management of agriculture, fisheries, and livestock industries, which are struggling due to falling prices and sluggish consumption of agricultural and marine products.


Agricultural and fishery public benefit allowances of 600,000 KRW per person, totaling 9.8 billion KRW, will be paid promptly, and 500 million KRW will be invested in the half-price seed support for small and medium-sized farms, which Haenam-gun is implementing for the first time this year.


Additionally, to expand the consumption of local agricultural products, the online shopping mall Haenam Miso will offer discounts of up to 46% on agricultural and marine specialties, and the local food direct store will hold a 20% discount event on all items.


Support measures for vulnerable groups ahead of the holiday have also been prepared. In addition to various welfare supports, about 2.15 billion KRW will be invested in voucher programs supporting electricity, gas, heating costs for 2,438 households, healthy food support vouchers, and elderly hairdressing service vouchers.


Furthermore, the active hosting of various sports competitions, including winter training camps, and the promotion of sport tourism are revitalizing the local economy during the winter off-season.


County Governor Myeon Hyun-gwan said, “As various domestic and international economic conditions are expected to remain challenging this year, it is judged that the public sector must take a leading role to stimulate the economy early. We will not only steadily implement the discovered measures by sector but also promote warm and vibrant economic revitalization strategies that can help the low-income economy.”
