Dongdaemun-gu Dapsimni 2-dong Officer Sin Soyeon Revives Breathing of 80s Resident Collapsed Early Morning on 22nd with CPR... Officer Sin: "Recent First Aid Training for Staff Was Very Helpful..."
A nurse public official working at the Dapsimni 2-dong Community Service Center in Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) was reported on the 22nd for discovering a collapsed resident and providing emergency treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
On the morning of the 22nd, Shin So-yeon, an administrative officer of Dapsimni 2-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, found an elderly resident in their 80s, Mr. A, collapsed in an alley while heading to work for snow removal. At that time, merchants and residents had gathered around Mr. A, and a citizen was performing CPR, but unfortunately, Mr. A was not breathing.
Recognizing the situation, Officer Shin immediately began CPR and asked nearby residents to call 119. After performing CPR for about one minute, Mr. A began to breathe intermittently, but his breathing was unstable and he remained unconscious. Officer Shin calmly continued CPR until the ambulance arrived.
Subsequently, the 119 paramedics who arrived took over and continued CPR. After confirming that Mr. A’s pulse had returned, he was transported to a nearby hospital.
Officer Shin said, "I did not hesitate to run to the resident who collapsed on the street in the cold weather. Although I was surprised by the unexpected situation, I diligently performed CPR as I was trained, hoping for the elder’s consciousness to return. When the elder started breathing, I felt relief and pride. Thanks to the recent emergency treatment training conducted for all Dongdaemun-gu employees, where we practiced for real situations, I was able to respond calmly and quickly."
The staff of the Dapsimni 2-dong Community Service Center participated in emergency treatment training held by Dongdaemun-gu Office in November last year, where they learned CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator.
Jung Il-young, head of Dapsimni 2-dong, said, "I was once again reminded that learning CPR can save the precious lives of my family and neighbors. I applaud Officer Shin’s courage in wisely handling the emergency situation and will continue to encourage staff participation in emergency treatment training."
