Yongin City and Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Sign Agreement to Designate 'Women-Friendly City'

Support for Projects in 5 Fields Over 5 Years

Gyeonggi-do Yongin City and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family signed an agreement on the designation of a 'Women-Friendly City' on the 23rd at the Seoul Post Tower in Sogong-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul.

Through this agreement, the city will receive support from the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family for policy formation education to enhance understanding of women-friendly cities and strengthen practical skills, as well as expert consulting, for five years from this year until 2028.

A 'Women-Friendly City' refers to a city where women and men participate equally in the process of establishing and implementing local policies, where women's empowerment and care support are expanded, and a safe urban environment is created. Yongin City has been designated as a women-friendly city for the third consecutive time, following 2013 and 2018.

Ryu Gwang-yeol, Deputy Mayor of Yongin City, said, "We will prepare various policies to ensure that women and men can participate equally in the local policy-making process," adding, "We will strive to make the city safe for all citizens."

Meanwhile, since 2014, Yongin City has been implementing various policies with five major goals to create a gender-equal city over ten years: ▲ Establishing a foundation for promoting gender equality policies ▲ Expanding women's economic and social participation ▲ Enhancing community safety ▲ Creating a family-friendly environment ▲ Strengthening women's capacity for community activities.
